 2017 Preview

East Limestone finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year East Limestone just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region eight with a 3-4 region record.

The Indians hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 8-3 record in 2015.

Since 2010, East Limestone has gone a combined 40-35. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, East Limestone has managed to compile a record of 161-129. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 5A and 117th in the AHSAA.

The Indians are led by head coach Jeff Pugh who is entering his twelveth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 66-55 over the past eleven seasons at East Limestone. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Pugh.

Coach Pugh's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen season stands at 97-87 (52.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Pugh's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won two region championships.

If East Limestone can win three games this season, Coach Pugh will reach the 100 win milestone.

The East Limestone Indians will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2017 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Indians if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season.

Andrew Parris returns for his Junior season after completing 32 of 86 passes for 659 yards and 7 touchdowns.

The defense returns Junior cornerback Kentayvis Valrie who registered 4 interceptions last year.

The defense also returns Senior outside linebacker Ryan Rodriguez who was in on 101 tackles last season.

The Indians open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent West Limestone on Thursday, August 31 at James Kennemer Stadium. Last year the West Limestone Wildcats finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in second place in Class 4A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cherokee County by a score of 39-38.

East Limestone and West Limestone have met a total of 52 times on the football field. The Indians have a 26-26-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2016 with West Limestone winning by a score of 36-21.
